Ingredients

  • 1 lb pound ground beef preferably 80/20 fat ratio
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp spice blend pungent spices (e.g., paprika, cayenne, black pepper) adjust to taste
  • 4 slices slices cheddar cheese or your favorite melting cheese
  • 4 slices white bread toasted lightly
  • 2 tbsp butter butter for toasting bread
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise optional, for spread
  • 1 cup crispy fried bits fried onion or tempura bits for crunch

Equipment

  • Skillet or frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Bread knife
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with minced garlic and pungent spices, then gently mix until evenly incorporated. Shape the mixture into four equal burger patties.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, until they develop a crust and are cooked through. Add slices of cheese during the last minute to allow them to melt beautifully.
  3. While the burgers cook, toast the bread slices in a separate pan with butter until golden brown and crispy around the edges. This enhances their crunch and flavor.
  4. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each toasted bread slice, if desired, for added creaminess and flavor.
  5. Place a burger patty with melted cheese on the bottom slice of bread, then sprinkle a handful of crispy bits for a crunchy surprise. Top with the second bread slice, mayonnaise side down.
  6. Press down gently to compact the layers and help the flavors meld, then cut the burger in half if desired to reveal the layers and textures inside.
  7. Serve immediately to enjoy the crispy exterior, gooey cheese, spicy beef, and crunchy bits all in one messy, flavorful bite.

Notes

Feel free to customize with additional toppings like pickles, onions, or hot sauce for an extra kick. Keep the crust crispy for maximum texture contrast.
