Watermelon Lemonade

This beverage combines pureed watermelon with fresh lemon juice, blended until smooth and strained for a clear, vibrant liquid. The mixture is then sweetened and chilled, resulting in a refreshing, semi-translucent drink with a smooth, slightly pulpy texture and a bright, citrusy flavor.

  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice strained
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • to taste extra water or ice for serving

Equipment

  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Blender
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Measuring cups
  • Lemon Juicer

Method

  1. Cut the watermelon into small chunks using a knife and cutting board, ensuring all seeds are removed.
  2. Place the watermelon chunks into the blender, and add the granulated sugar. Blend on high until the mixture is smooth and uniform, approximately 30-45 seconds, with no large fruit pieces visible.
  3. Pour the pureed watermelon through a fine mesh strainer into a large bowl or pitcher, pressing gently to extract as much juice as possible while removing pulp and fibrous bits.
  4. Stir the strained watermelon juice with the freshly squeezed lemon juice in the pitcher, adjusting sweetness if desired by adding more sugar or water.
  5. Chill the lemonade in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. Pour into glasses over ice or dilute with additional cold water or ice as preferred.

Notes

For a more vivid color and flavor, refrigerate the watermelon ahead of time. Adjust sweetness and tartness by varying the amount of lemon juice and sugar to taste.
